Buffalo Zoo - Rainforest
Can you spot the heating ductwork in these photos? Look closer at the rocks and trees? Still don’t see anything?
John W. Danforth Company provided the Heating and Ventilating solutions for the brand new South American Rainforest Exhibit at the Buffalo Zoo. The main exhibit is supplied air through fiberglass reinforced duct, up to 60 inches in diameter. FRP duct is run underground, into the exhibit and then was incorporated as rocks and trees for an almost unnoticeable duct installation.
The exhibit, which opened September 9, 2008, contains an HVAC system that includes an 80,000 cfm air handling unit for the main exhibit, two heat recovery units for animal holding areas, and one roof top air handling unit for the theatre and gift shop. Air handling units are all supplied heat from the new boilers installed by Danforth in the mechanical room. Exhaust fans were also provided to fully ventilate the entire facility.
Danforth services included sheet metal, piping, balancing, controls, air testing and commissioning of system. The entire HVAC project was $2.2 million.
