Chautauqua Lake Central School
Comprising the former Mayville Central School and the Chautauqua Central School districts, this new 250,000 square foot facility is the learning center for 1,200 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Highlights of the building include "mini" computer labs between every two classrooms, a two-story atrium, glass-walled art rooms, a 900 seat auditorium, a television production studio, three gymnasiums and a fitness training facility. The ground source heat pump HVAC system provides simultaneous geothermal heating and cooling in response to the space requirements through the fully automated Direct Digital Control system. Relying on a constant underground temperature, the system includes 27 miles of underground pipe transferring heat from the ground to the building during the heating months, and the transfer of heat from the building to the ground during the cooling months. By tapping a reliable, inexhaustible, and low cost source of renewable energy, the building is heated and cooled in an economical and environmentally friendly way.
