Roswell Park Cancer Institute

The 159,300 sq. ft. Roswell Park Medical Research Complex was opened in 1998 on a 25 acre campus in Buffalo, NY. Danforth engineers worked in collaboration with the building team to design the mechanical systems and equipment necessary to heat, ventilate and air condition this hospital facility. Two air handling units - one capable of processing 125,000 cfm for common room air quality, and the other filtering 90,000 cfm through HEPA certified filtration for clean environments were fabricated by Danforth. Temperature, humidity, fume hood exhaust, lighting schedules and static pressure differentials between common rooms and critical isolation areas are all monitored and controlled by a Direct Digital Control system. The system also includes: 6 air handlers (88,000 cfm), 50 exhaust fans (10,000 cfm), 244 VAV boxes, 11 duct mounted humidifiers, 3 chilled water pumps (2,200 gpm), 3 hot water pumps (600 gpm) and over 5 miles of piping.
